18th July, Putrajaya, The Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF) has officially launched their mobile application SAMS( Sports Aviation Management System). During Selangor Aviation Show 2023, MSAF was given the remarkable opportunity by the State of Selangor, through Invest Selangor, to host the Asian Sports Aviation Summit where the general conference of the Airsports Federation of Asia and SAMS was unveiled there.

 (SAMS) application is a collaboration with various strategic partners, Identex Digital Sdn Bhd in developing the software, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for drone sports research and development, AIM Aerial Technologies providing  live tracking and monitoring, Generali Insurance Malaysia Berhad  providing insurance coverage, and Futurise Sdn Bhd collaborated with MSAF to develop training manuals,road map & frameworks for drone sports. This initiative is seen as a bold step in digitilazing air sports management and operation in Malaysia.

MSAF President, Nurhaqimy Ismail, announced that this collective collaboration emphasizes the federation’s commitment to innovation and excellence in air sports and recreational aviation. SAMS represents a leap into future digital technology.

He highlighted that this innovative application integrates various functions, including license management, certificates, individual rankings, an SOS system, tracking of ongoing individual activities, live tracking, logbooks, and many more upcoming modules.

“All of these are designed to help individuals involved in air sports adhere to the  safety regulations set by the authorities”

“This mobile application consolidates all the needs of the air sports community into an accessible and user-friendly platform, making recreational flying and air sports easier and safer for everyone.

“We are greatly honored that the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, has graciously agreed to officiate the launch of SAMS,” he said during his speech at the Introduction of the Sports Aviation Management  Management System (SAMS) Application event at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Putrajaya.

 

Special annoucement also was made by the President to appoint Datuk Mohd Nawawi Awang as Operational and Safety Advisor of MSAF particularly to assist the President
together with the team to set up/improve existing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), regulations and
documentations under MSAF.
This Appointment also witnessed by Deputy President of MSAF ASP Muhammad Fadzli, Secretary General of KBS, YBHG. TS. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, YB Hannah Yeoh  and YB Tuan Ng Sze Han, Exco of Selangor.

 

“Datuk Nawawi is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CIT
UK/CILT Malaysia) and holds an MBA from University of Strathclyde, Scotland.


He began his aviation career by serving in the RMAF for a period of 5 years before joining
Malaysian Airlines. From a professional airline pilot, he rose to become the Director of
Flight Operations Division. He was also a member of MAS Senior Management
Committee. His last management position at MAS was as its CEO of MASwings.


During his tenure as the DFO, he was tasked to ensure the safe and efficient flight
operations throughout MAS global network and the best in-flight services that the cabin
MAS crew could offer. It was then that MAS was accorded the “Best Cabin Staff in the
World” for four consecutive years from 2001 to 2004.


He was also MAS Representative in several aviation industry-level committee, including
the IATA Operations Committee that provides airlines flight operational and safety
recommendations to IATA Board of Governors. He was the Chairman of Malaysian
Aviation Frequency Spectrum by the MCMC and was part of the Malaysian Contingent
to the World Radio Conferences in Istanbul and Geneva in 2000 and 2003.


During MAS Business Turnaround Programme in 2007 he was tasked to spearhead
the airline’s efforts to ‘Win Coalitions,’ one of the five thrusts in MAS BTP.
Upon leaving MAS, he joined a Malaysian Hajj and Umrah Air Charter Company, Eagle
Express Sdn Bhd and later was appointed the CEO of the company.
In keeping to his passion in aviation, he currently provides advisory work to new startup
airlines or aviation and tourism companies, and he is also called back to Malaysia
Airlines Academy to share his vast knowledge and experiences in aircraft operations to
new MAS pilots.”
